Tipperary County Council welcomes the multi-million euro funding announced under the Rural Regeneration Development Fund for 3 towns across Co. Tipperary
Tipperary County Council welcomes the approval of €31 million of funding for Tipperary which was announced by Minister for Rural and Community Development Heather Humphreys, T.D., under the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund (RRDF). The RRDF is a national fund that commits to invest €1 billion in rural Ireland as part of Project Ireland 2040 strategy.
Tipperary County Council submitted three ambitious and high-quality funding applications to the Department under the fourth call of the RRDF, with the aim of obtaining financial support for the delivery of shovel-ready projects that will regenerate and transform the three towns of Carrick on Suir, Cahir and Roscrea.
The Council was successful in gaining funding approval for all three applications under this call which were assessed as part of a national competitive bids process. The estimated project cost for all three projects is €38.5 million with matching funding to the value of €7.5 million to be provided by the Council.
To date Tipperary County Council has been successful in obtaining funding to the amount of €38 million under Project Ireland 2040. This latest announcement brings the total funding provision to €69 million.
Tipperary County Council is working on 17 approved projects spread across the county with a combined estimated project cost of €92 million. The balance between the estimated project costs and the total funding provision needs to be met by the local authority through the provision of assets or match funding. This announcement brings the Council’s total match funding commitment to the sum of €18.7 million.

These rural regeneration type projects are having a really positive impact on our rural towns and surrounding rural areas over the last four years. I would like to acknowledge the work and commitment by everyone in the Council that has played a role in helping us to secure this funding and submitting such impressive and detailed funding applications that are ready for delivery. This announcement shows the commitment at a national and local level to investing in Tipperary, in its people and its places”
Chief Executive of Tipperary County Council, Joe MacGrath stated that “Tipperary County Council had been extraordinarily successful in obtaining funds under Project Ireland 2040, receiving a total €69 million in funding to date for 17 regeneration projects across the county. The Council has a strong strategic vision that aims to make Tipperary a vibrant place where people can live, visit and work in a competitive and resilient economy, a sustainable environment and an inclusive and active community. This funding provision matched with the significant capital investment by Tipperary County Council of close to €19 million will help us to realise this vision and help to transform our towns and rural areas and strengthen our rural economies and communities.
