A new podcast series featuring female councillors from Tipperary was launched by Cathaoirleach Councillor Ger Darcy at the Council meeting today, Monday 12 March 2024 and stated that “By sharing the experiences and insights of female councillors in Tipperary, the podcast series aims to provide valuable information and inspiration for women considering a career in politics.”

Listeners will get a glimpse into their journey into politics and the day-to-day reality of being a public representative, the aim is to encourage women's interest in local and national politics, increase the visibility of women councillors in County Tipperary, and create awareness of the positive impact of female participation in politics.

Chief Executive, Joe Mac Grath said that “the podcast series was possible thanks to the funding received from the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage to help support and encourage increased participation of women and people of diversity in the 2024 local elections.”

The podcast series is part of a wider initiative to support and empower women in politics. The newly formed women's caucus, established in 2023, aims to build the capacity of women councillors, especially newly elected ones, through formal and informal mentoring, and promote women's equality in Local Government.

The Women's Caucus aims to ensure gender balance in politics and encourage more women to enter the political sphere. Councillor Peggy Ryan, Chairperson of the Women's Caucus, expressed the hope that the podcasts will inspire women to get involved in local politics and work within their communities to make a positive impact
