Heavy Goods/Commercial Vehicles

Heavy goods vehicles are vehicles exceeding 3500kg Design Gross Vehicle Weight. For first taxation of a heavy goods vehicle in your name you need :

  • Completed Application Form RF100 (From Garage if new, or from NCT if imported) and Form RF100A – form available at www.motortax.ie , if first time taxing on change of ownership to your name.
  • Weight docket from authorised weighbridge in respect of all Articulated Vehicles. NOTE: An articulated vehicle i.e. vehicle and trailer is regarded as a single vehicle and motor tax is payable on the basis of the unladen weight of the tractor unit plus the unladen weight of the heaviest trailer which may be used at any time during the period of the licence-see list of Authorised Weighbridges at List of Weighbridges Please note that the Licencing Authority may require a weight docket on the change of ownership of a rigid truck in its absolute discretion.
  • The vehicle must have a current Certificate of Road Worthiness where it is one year old or more from the date it was first registered. This will automatically show on NVDF if tested since October 2013.
  • Insurance Details
  • Appropriate fee.

To renew motor taxation on a heavy goods vehicle currently taxed in your name, you need :

  • Completed application form, i.e. Reminder RF100B or Tax Renewal Form RF100A see see forms at www.motortax.ie
  • Appropriate Fee.
  • The vehicle must have a current Certificate of Road Worthiness where it is one year old or more from the date it was first registered. This will automatically show on NVDF if tested since October 2013.
  • Insurance details.

To renew tax where a re-declaration is necessary (e.g. change of unladen weight ) you need:

  • Completed Declaration Form RF111 – form available at www.motortax.ie
  • Registration Book or Vehicle Registration Certificate
  • Weight Docket from Authorised Weighbridge see
