Age Friendly Alliance Support

Local authorities support Age Friendly Alliance boards to develop and put in place age friendly strategies and the Age Friendly Cities and Counties Programmes (AFCCP).

Age Friendly Cities and Counties Programme

Local authorities, together with their local Age Friendly Alliance Board, may run programmes to support cities and counties to become more inclusive places for older people by planning for and developing age friendly services.

Local authorities may run initiatives to support accessible and inclusive services for older people in housing, transport, social participation and inclusion, communication and information, community safety and health and wellbeing.

Healthy Age Friendly Homes Programme

Age Friendly Ireland run a programme to support older people to continue to live independently in their own home or in a home more suited to their needs.

Local authorities may set up and support older people's Local authorities to represent the views of older people, promote inclusion of older people in communities, prevent age related isolation and loneliness, and promote fitness and active ageing.

Buntús Generic Programme

Local Sports Partnerships, together with other agencies may run a programme to support teachers to promote physical development in primary school children aged 4-11 years by providing supports such as play bags, games ideas and resource cards to teachers.

Buntús Start Programme

Local Sports Partnerships, together with other agencies, may run a programme to support teachers and childcare practitioners to promote physical development in children aged 2-5 years through participating in play activities which develop basic skills and a positive attitude towards physical activity.

Child Safeguarding in Sport Training

Local Sports Partnerships provide child safeguarding training to parents, guardians, sports leaders, coaches, children's officers and designated liaison persons so that they can provide an enjoyable and safe environment for children taking part in sport.

Carbon Monoxide Alarm Scheme

Local authorities may provide carbon monoxide alarms to residents of privately owned accommodation.

Community Safety Forum Support

Local authorities, together with An Garda Síochána (national police), community and voluntary groups and local residents, may support communities in RAPID (Revitalising Areas through Planning, Investment and Development) areas to improve community safety.

Local authorities, together with An Garda Síochána (national police), may provide text alerts to the public about crime related incidents and crime prevention to support and promote community safety.

Home Security Scheme

Local authorities may provide security locks to older residents of privately owned accommodation who may be vulnerable or living alone.

Joint Policing Committee Support

Local authorities, together with An Garda Síochána (national police), elected representatives and community and voluntary groups, may set up and support committees to discuss local policing issues. These issues include crime, public disorder and antisocial behaviour and recommend ways to help reduce crime and improve public safety.

Property Marking Scheme

Local authorities may provide community and voluntary groups, schools and businesses marking machines to stamp an Eircode into valuable items such as printers, tablets, power tools and generators to prevent theft and help An Garda Síochána (national police) return stolen items if recovered.

CLÁR (Ceantair Laga Árd-Riachtanais) Programme

Local authorities may provide financial support to community and voluntary groups and local development companies for small infrastructural projects in eligible disadvantaged rural areas. These projects must support schools, community safety measures, the development of play and multi use game areas, and community wellbeing projects.

Rural Development (LEADER) Programme

Local Action Groups may provide financial support to community and voluntary groups and businesses to develop rural tourism, enterprise development, broadband and renewable energy projects to improve rural economies and the quality of life in rural areas.

Rural Development Forums Support

Local authorities may set up and support forums (groups) to allow community and voluntary groups, local development bodies, public representatives and state agencies to work together to address challenges facing rural communities and propose solutions. The challenges may include job creation, improved transport and access to broadband.

Rural Development Initiatives

Local authorities may develop initiatives to attract people to live and work in rural communities such as enterprise and employment projects, transport initiatives, broadband services, digital hubs and e-working spaces.

Rural Regeneration and Development Fund

Local authorities may support local development companies, state agencies, community organisations and private investors to secure government funding to develop projects that support job creation and innovation, address depopulation, develop infrastructure and community facilities, and protect culture and heritage in rural communities.

Urban Regeneration and Development Fund

Local authorities may work with local development companies, state agencies, community organisations and private investors to secure government funding to support new residential and commercial developments in designated cities and towns.

Local authorities coordinate youth councils which give young people under the age of 18 the chance to get involved in the development of policy and local services and discuss issues that affect them such as homelessness, mental health, physical health, cyber health and bullying.

Community Enhancement Programme

Local Community Development Committees provide financial support to community and voluntary groups to support small capital projects which improve facilities in disadvantaged areas. These may include the development of community centres and amenities, burial grounds, sports and recreation facilities, men's and women's sheds, and CCTV equipment.

Community Projects Grant

Local authorities may provide financial support to community and voluntary groups to support cultural, artistic and community development projects that improve the quality of life.

Community Recognition Fund

The Community Recognition Fund aims to support the development of community infrastructure and facilities in recognition of the contribution being made by communities across the country in welcoming and hosting significant numbers of arrivals from Ukraine and other countries.

Equality, Integration and Social Inclusion

Disability Access and Equality Initiatives

Local authorities run initiatives to provide accessible services for people with disabilities. These services include accessible parking, disability friendly sports facilities, accessible bring banks and recycling units, and assistive technology.

Interagency Refugee Resettlement Programme

Local authorities, together with other agencies, may facilitate the integration and resettlement of refugees in the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) programme. They do this by coordinating services such as medical care, childcare, education, social and community supports, and links to An Garda Síochána (national police) and community safety supports.

Migrant Integration Forum Support

Local authorities may cut grass in public parks, open green spaces, along roadsides, on roundabouts and in authorised housing estates.

Leaf Collection and Composting

Local authorities may collect fallen leaves from public parks, playgrounds, roadsides and open green spaces for composting.

Memorial Placement Permission

You must apply to the local authority for a permit if you want to erect a memorial plaque, tree or bench to honour a person, group of people or significant event.

Open Spaces Maintenance Grant
